Work and Rest
We think humans were created to work--that work is not a consequence of a broken world, but instead a way we bring God's kingdom to earth, as it is in heaven. We also recognize that work can be exploitative, frustrating, alienating, and impoverishing to our bodies and souls. At the abbey, we cultivate the land and its inhabitants' potential. We seek not to extract value but to add it, knowing that if we do, all will become richer. Both work and rest both give meaning to our lives. Through our labor, we work in the hope of the renewal of all things, and through our rest, we wield "a weapon against the oppression of man's obsession to control things" (Josh Garrels).
We can have peace about long-range development on our land, realizing that God will see the work to completion in His time.
The Land Team is beginning to collect tools, farm implements, and work vehicles for the Abbey. Particularly, we'd like to have a used 4x4 farm truck. If you'd like to donate some of these items to the Abbey, help us purchase them, or know where we could acquire them, please notify Daniel at daniel@churchofthelamb.org.
Until we believe that God, who possesses perfect wisdom and perfect love, who knows everything about us there is to know and always has our very best interest in mind, whose every command and every invitation is meant to enhance us rather than diminish us, we will continue to suffer fruitless exhaustion.
A running list of work opportunities at Church of the Lamb’s property will live here. They may be completed as you have time and energy, and we have something for everyone, regardless of age or ability. If you’re interested in participating in any of the tasks below, contact Daniel Zimmerman at daniel@churchofthelamb.org.
A spiritual director does not replace the Holy Spirit and does not speak for Jesus. But they can walk with us down to the riverbank, help us put our tired, dusty feet in the water, and remind us what our thirst is for.
