Mission & Values

To abide as disciples of Christ:
invited to rest
& compelled to love.

Prayer & Work.

“The time of business does not with me differ from the time of prayer, and in the noise and clatter of my kitchen, while several persons are calling for different things, I possess God in as great tranquility as if I were upon my knees at the Blessed Sacrament.”
— Brother Lawrence

Church of the Lamb at Rockingham Abbey

By holding both prayer and work as integral to the Christian Life, we offer our very lives as a living sacrifice to the Lord, while also affirming that God’s invitation to rest is essential to faithful living. At Lamb, we look to the life of Christ and monastic traditions to inform how we do this.

Through our work, we celebrate God’s created order as in the garden, where Adam and Eve were given good work to do, tending to the plants, animals, and each other while also pausing to walk with God in the cool of the day.

Through this partnership of prayer and work, we affirm that God is the creator and we the created being; God does not require our participation to do good work, but it is what he made us for, and we thrive according to our created order when we join God in good work.

We encourage all parishioners, young and old, to volunteer their time to the work of Church of the Lamb at Rockingham Abbey as we partner with God to bring the kingdom of heaven to earth through our lived-out theology of work and prayer.

We labor for renewal in our lives and in God’s good creation, believing the Holy Spirit works in and through us.
